The Australian Agricultural Sustainability Framework (AASF) is a collaborative initiative led by the National Farmers’ Federation with support from the Australian Government.
It was developed to help the agricultural sector demonstrate its sustainability performance both in Australia and globally.
The framework is built on key principles of sustainable agriculture, focusing on environmental stewardship, people, animals and community, and economic resilience.
The Consultation Paper focuses on key areas for the AASF:
- Future of the AASF – Governance, Strategy and Operations
- Framework Enhancement – Materiality Assessment Recommendations
- Data Ecosystem
- AASF Sustainability Indicators
The AASF Consultation Paper seeks stakeholder feedback on its progress and activities to help shape its future direction.
Climateworks recognises that protecting and restoring nature is essential to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions, as climate action and resilient ecosystems are closely interconnected.
Over the past five years, Climateworks has participated in the AASF Community of Practice (CoP).
Recently, the team has actively contributed to the Data Ecosystem initiative led by CSIRO and the AASF Indicator work program led by AFI.
Our feedback is organised under the four key chapter headings and draws on our experience in land use planning, natural capital, and broader engagement with the agriculture, conservation, finance, corporate, and government sectors.
