1. Introduction
Southeast Asia, representing six per cent of global GDP and the world’s fifth-largest economy, is poised to become a global manufacturing hub, accounting for a quarter of global energy demand over the next decade.
Southeast Asia faces challenges in green industrialisation including demand uncertainty for green products, high capital costs, and a lack of collaboration on decarbonisation which increases its risk of losing global competitiveness and falling behind in green growth.
Climateworks Centre and Mission Possible Partnership initiated the Clean Industrial Manufacturing for Promoting ASEAN Competitiveness and Transformation (C-IMPACT) project to accelerate clean manufacturing in ASEAN member states. We acknowledge funding from the UK Mission to ASEAN through the ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund. C-IMPACT project is one of the key workstreams within ASEAN-UK Green Transition Fund Pillar III clean and just energy transition. In this pillar, ASEAN-UK GTF aim to accelerate clean and just energy transition in ASEAN from developing concrete plan to support of pilot implementation.
Through the development of a regional clean and competitive manufacturing strategy, C-IMPACT willdrive coordinated action plans, scalable pilots and enhance capacity to propel inclusive and sustained regional progress.
What we’re doing
Working closely with the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN member states, C-IMPACT will:
- Co-design a Regional Clean and Competitive Manufacturing Strategy with ASEAN stakeholders
- Conduct sector-specific pilot studies to stress-test the strategy and developing a scalability toolkit for ASEAN Member States
- Conduct regional capacity building workshops and knowledge exchange to enhance technical capacity of ASEAN member states
- Formalise an ASEAN multi-stakeholder task force on clean manufacturing to foster regional collaboration.
